SECOND HONORS EXPERIENCE

Materials Science: "From Soda Cans to Smart Phones: How It's Made"
Taught by Professor Ashley Paz y Puente
Spring Semester 2020

I believe I got a lot out of my enrollment with Professor Paz y Puente in this materials science and engineering Honors Seminar. I was drawn towards this class by a longstanding interest in manufacturing and gaining an insight into "why things are the way that they are." This class met my expectations in both regards, and helped me develop a mindset for evaluation and critical thinking to reach an optimal decision.

Our class concluded the semester by putting on a public outreach event for the University and wider Cincinnati area. The purpose of this event was twofold; to present our newly gained knowledge and also to provide an outlet for learning and growth to UC students and community members alike. This event got me very excited, as someone who loves teaching children and performing service. This class helped foster a stronger Cincinnati community and forge relationships, even in spite of the restrictions in place on in-person interactions.

I have included my group's presentation portion of the outreach event. We covered Polymers, and I took the lead on both hands-on demonstrations.
